Yerevan
Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia in terms of population and area, as well as one of the worlds oldest cities, 29 years older than Rome. The city has a total area of 223 km2. Yerevan is the countrys political, economic, cultural, and scientific capital, as well as its most major transportation hub; the city is served by two airports, a subway, and a railway station. A warm and sunny metropolis where everyone will feel at ease, and where everyone will find activities to their satisfaction.
Not far from the city is Zvartnots, Europes oldest temple, which dates back 13 centuries. If you visit Yerevan, you should surely go to Matenadaran, which houses the world-famous Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, the State Museum of History, the M. Saryan Museum, the Museum of Modern Arts, the State Art Gallery, the S. Parajanov Museum, and much more.
In Yerevan, at the Vernissage market, you can find a variety of antiques of varying degrees of value, from antique carpets, silver, authors ceramics, to dishes, national musical instruments, onyx vases, etc. A gorge of quite impressive proportions passes through Yerevan, it is called Hrazdan in honor of the mountain river that flows there. In the evenings, life is in full swing in the gorge - a record number of restaurants, cafes, hotels have been built here, but thanks to its size there is always a place for those who just want to take a walk surrounded by trees, listen to the birds singing and the murmur of water. Yerevan is also famous for its brandy, to see this, you can visit the Yerevan Brandy Factory, which is located above the gorge, where the famous Ararat brandy, W. Churchills favorite drink, is produced.
